J.Lo's Biography
She was born on the
24 of July 1970 in Bronx, New York. Her parents are from Puerto Rico
and she considers herself Puerto Rican. Her height is 5'6. Her first
role was as Myra in the TV-movie My Little Girl. A couple of years
later she got the role as one of the Fly Girls on the hit comedy
show In Living Color. After two seasons on one of television's
hottest sitcoms, she got a chance to display her acting abilities in
CBS's Second Chances co-starring Connie Selleca and Megan Follows.
Although Second Chances only aired for one season, Lopez's character
(Melinda Lopez) was so popular, it was continued on Aaron Spelling's
series, Hotel Malibu. Lopez was also seen as a recurring char- acter
on FOX's South Central, where she portrayed Lucy, who worked in the
co-op market.
Her first big
screen appearence she got in the movie My Family/Mi Familia. In 1995
Lopez got her first major role as Grace Santiago, a New York City
transit cop in the movie Money Train. In 1996 Jennifer co-starred in
Jack, a comedy directed by Francis Ford Coppola and starring Robin
Williams as a ten-year-old boy who falls for his Latina
schoolteacher. 1997 was a busy year for her as she appeared in four
movies. As Jack Nicholson's Cuban mistress in Blood and Wine, in
Selena, Anaconda and Oliver Stone's U-Turn. She also became the
first latin woman to receive $1 million for a movie. In 1998 she did
Out of Sight, one of the years best movies, with George Clooney, for
which she also earned two MTV Movie Award nominations, in the best
actress and best kiss categories.
Lopez's stage
background includes performing Synchronicity in Japan with
dancer/singer/choreo- grapher Hinton Battle, performing the Golden
Musicals of Broadway on a European tour, along with appearances in
regional productions of Oklahoma and Jesus Christ Superstar.
She has also
appeared in two music videos: Janet Jackson's That's the Way Love
Goes (1993) and Puff Daddy & The Family's Been Around the World
(1997).
She was chosen by
"People" magazine in 1997 as one of the 50 most beautiful
people in the world. She married Ojani Noa in 1997 and divorced him
a year later. In 1998 she was nominated for a Golden Globe for her
performance in Selena and she has got a MTV Movie Awards nomination
for the same role.
In the summer of
1999 she released an album called On the 6. The first single from
the album, If you had my love, has already sold platinum in US. She
followed up that single with Waiting For Tonight, Feelin' So Good,
Let's Get Loud and No Me Ames (with Marc Anthony). Internationally
the album has sold over 2.8 million copies.
She also started
dating Puff Daddy for a couple of years, but has now left him. She
got many different nominations for her debut album and won the MTV
European Music Award for Best R&B.
Last fall her new
movie, The Cell, opened and was a modest hit. Her next movie, The
Wedding Planner debuted #1 on the box office charts and also her
second album, J.Lo, scored a #1 position on the billboard album
chart. So far she has released two singles from the new album, Love
Don't Cost A Thing and Play. |
